Birthday cake for Kit Cat (known to her father as Caitlyn), my daughter's BFF (Best friend forever). Kit Cat is a talented musician, with several electric and acoustic guitars, and is also very good with her keyboard, so I wanted to reflect this in her cake.
Red rose for a splash of colour, while not making it too "girlie"
I hope you girls are having a fabulous sleepover party, and I really hope your Dad gets a little sleep tonight at least ;)
Another busy week for cakes! First up is Kelly, her design was a combination of 2 cakes. An 8" and 12" offset square, gluten free mudcake. Decorated with hand made fondant shells and pearls, dusted with blue lustre.
Next up is Amanda. We have been looking forward to Amanda's wedding for sometime now! Early in the year we met Amanda and her lovely mum when they called into our store and found the exact dress she had been looking for, for her bridesmaids.
The design Amanda chose is a mix of the traditional and the contemporary. All tiers being different shapes added to the visual appeal (with the fruitcake and chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling adding to the taste bud's appeal!), top and bottom tiers were quilted with gold cachous, with the middle tier featuring a fine heart piping. The purple cord was supplied to match the bridesmaid gowns, a fun yet romantic topper, and some of the most beautiful and life like silk orchids I have ever seen! Now, please excuse the bad (ok terrible) photos, my good camera was in Walpole with the rest of my family, but I will upload some better shots when the superb photogs @ pixel magix add them to their blog!
Last but not least is my fabulous father in law, Pat. It's his birthday tomorrow (Monday), so his lovely wife Jenny organized a family weekend away, for the very large Kane clan (10 kids & 10 adults). I couldn't pass up the opportunity to show him how special he is to us all, with a special cake! After delivering Amanda's cake to the Italian club (which Janine had done a fantastic job of decorating!), I picked up a few items on the shopping list my husband sms'd me earlier in the morning (who knew you could sms from a phone box!?!?!) and my fabulous sister-in-law and bro-in-law-to-be drove me down to Walpole, and we joined in the birthday celebrations!
First up we have Belinda & Aaron's engagement cake. A cute design, "Two hearts", with a simple heart spray, and a mouth watering choc mud / white choc mud swirl center.
For the design as shown, $220
Next is Racheal & Daniel's wedding cupcake tower. 40 Mississippi mud cake cupcakes, iced with vanilla butter cream swirls. Sprinkled with silver cachous and hand made blossoms which have been dusted with blue luster, the over all effect was light and pretty.
Cupcake design as shown $4.50 each. Stand available to hire with order.
Last, but by no means least, was little Joseph's christening cake. Now this little man is the cutest little thing, and is destined to be a heart breaker!
His lovely mum Chloe chose an 8" Mississippi mud cake, with a patchwork design on the sides, and little Joseph's name spelled out on train carriages. But the show stopper on this cake is the little sleeping baby. Hand made by myself, and shaded for realism, this little baby has to be seen in person to be appreciated.
For the design as shown $165
So one very busy week for cakes indeed.
A blackout last night lasting several hours, right in the middle of baking, resulted in 2 dozen cupcakes landing in the bin, a quick whip up of a new batch, and a 5am bed time.
It was more than a little stressful, and saw me making a fondant baby by candle light!
Today was a little "hazy", as I'm sure those who spoke to me this morning at Affordable Elegance may have noticed :) I look forward to an early night tonight, because tomorrow I start on next week's cake orders, 2 wedding cakes over 2 days.
Today I had the pleasure of delivering Catherine and Jason's wedding cake. I walked into the room at the Lighthouse resort, and the sight that greeted me took my breath away! The fabulous team at Creations unlimited were working their magic. Every detail was meticulously coordinated, and my mum (my delivery helper for the afternoon) gasped when she noticed that each vase on each table was wrapped in the exact same lace that surrounded the cake!
Catherine's taste in decor is exquisite, as is her taste in wedding cake (and baker :P )
Standing at approx 12" tall, and weighing a tonne! The top double tier was an 8" white chocolate mudcake, and the bottom double tier was a 10" Mississippi mudcake. With white icing and white roses, wrapped in lace and pearls supplied by the bride, this cake matched the reception perfectly.
Catherine's photographers are the extremely talented duo, Mike & Kylie, from Pixel Magix, and I wait excitedly for photos from their big day to land on their blog (UPDATE: Their photos are up! What a beautiful wedding,couple... bride. The image below is taken by Pixel Magix)
Lisa chose a stunning ivory 2 tier, barrel cake design. Accented with a beautifully embellished lace band around each tier, a hint of red to tie in her colour scheme, and a simple ivory rose for a little glamor.
What a crazy, mad week for cakes! This week was my first mid week wedding cake.
A design of mine that is proving popular, plain iced with satin ribbon to co-ordinate with the bridal colours, and a simple bling buckle, in this case a heart. Other options are round, oval, square, rectangular or the Coco Chanel "C" logo.
It's hard to believe it has been 1 year since Affordable Elegance opened it's doors in Bunbury. It has been an amazing whirl wind journey! So many lovely brides, bridesmaids, and cute as a button flower girls and page boys. Thank you to all our past customers, and we look forward to helping you again in the future with christening gowns and a dress for that special dinner date ;)
Glenn's 40th birthday was celebrated in style, with his lovely wife Lainy ordering a birthday cake that celebrated everything that made Glenn... well, Glenn!
A mini Glenn sat atop his "tool box", wearing his work uniform. Glenn is a keen drummer, electrician by trade, handy with a computer, and a Mr Fix-it around the house. Not forgetting the '74 Monaro and Mitsubishi ute he is lovingly restoring, hence the GTS and Mitsubishi badges.
Measuring a grand 16"L x 8"D x 5" high, and EVERYTHING (with the exception of mini Glenn's mini drumsticks) being entirely edible! $450
Sharon combined 2 of my most popular designs, lazy love hearts and sugar rose petals, incorporating the colour of her stunning silk Gee Gee gown, Lola, with the satin ribbon in "ecru". A beautifully romantic cake with each petal a subtle heart shape.
8" fruitcake with 10" mississippi mudcake, decorated as shown, $350
Louise's cake consisted of a 12" Mississippi mud cake, with off-set 9" & 6" fruitcake tiers. Burgundy ribbon to match her wedding gown, and frangipani with diamonte picks to tie it all together. Finished off with a little bit of simple draping and a spray of hearts.
I had the pleasure of helping Mother-of-the-groom, Michelle, plan her son and daughter-in-law-to-be's wedding cake.
The final design was a 2 tier "Barrel" cake, with Swiss dots, satin ribbon and rhinestone buckles. It was to be an intimate family gathering, which didn't require a large amount of cake, so Michelle opted for the bottom of each "barrel" to be foam, with the top of each consisting of fruitcake.
My cousin-in-law's daughter is turning 1! So today we held a little party for all the little cousins to play and eat some fairy bread. My present to Rayne was her cake! It was a little last minute as her mummy and daddy are moving house, and her party was brought forward a little bit. But several REALLY late nights later..... I dropped in some cupcakes for 1 of my many sister-in-laws on Friday, just as a special treat. 6 mississippi mud and 6 white chocolate mud with dark chocolate ganache and sprinkles.... EVERYONE loves sprinkles ;) The aromas coming from the box were drool inducing!
A last minute wedding cake order. Lisa requested a simple design with black and red ribbons. The topper was added by the bride after it was picked up, so unfortunately I do not have a completed photo.
A last minute cup cake order for a college's birthday, what a thoughtful friend! 1 dozen Mississippi mud cakes, dark choc ganache with hand made blossoms. 1 box of a dozen cupcakes = $55 2 boxes = $100Fantastic gift idea, birthdays, get well, congratulations, thank you, I love you or just about any reason. Also handy for when it is your turn to bring in the cake for morning tea!
This cake was such a delight to create! Marbled fondant with a hand modeled sailor, requested for a 50th birthday. Keep an eye out for some more exciting "Men's" cakes coming next month!
Hands up who would like one dozen cupcakes delivered to their place of work, just in time for morning tea...... for FREE!
That's right, one dozen yummy, scrummy cup cakes to share with your work mates!
To enter the draw, simply email me your name, place of employment, and a day time contact number. nicolekane@iinet.net.au
There are multiple prizes to be won (valued at $55), and if proven successful, I will run this competition indefinitely, with a draw taking place each week. *Prizes are not transferable, or redeemable for cash.Only businesses based in the immediate Bunbury area are eligible to enter.
I strongly urge those clients who would like to book their wedding cake with me, to do so very shortly, or you may miss out. I will be running a 1/2 page ad in next week's "Women in Business" feature in the Bunbury Mail, and if the bridal expo was anything to go by, I am predicting a LOT of interest.
I will only accept 1 wedding cake booking per date, as I do not believe in compromising the quality of a client's cake, to "squeeze in" another.
You do not have to a design in mind to book your date, these details can be determined at a later date.
Its seems like I have been going cup cake crazy the last few weeks! Leah & Jaymie ordered 5 dozen cup cakes, with a 6" cutting cake for Jaymie's 21st birthday party in Perth this weekend. With a half n half mix of vanilla buttercream and chocolate buttercream on top of mississippi mudcakes. Each is topped with a malteser or hand made freckle. Sitting atop the cutting cake, is a mini-me Jaymie, hand modelled by me.
My sister in law recently turned 30. For her party, all guests were requested to bring "30 something".... of anything. Of course, I brought 30 cupcakes! Some of the other "things" that were taken were, 30 iced coffees, 30 lego wheels, but the winner was 30 baby teeth..... yes, TEETH! Thankfully the gentleman in question took them home with him! For my son's 9th birthday, he took these adorable cupcakes to school for his class. He enjoys playing "Chuzzle" on the computer at his Aunty's house, so I whipped these up for him. From what I hear, they went down a treat with his class mates, teachers, as well as the admin ladies and the principle!
My first corporate cake, very exciting for me! The order consisted of a 2 tier fruitcake (14" & 12" = approx 30kg of cake!), as well as a 14" mississippi mud kitchen-cake. The BPA logo was hand piped by me, to match with the company colours.
I love baby showers, and I love to make baby shower cakes! Mel requested my "cute as a button" design, with my choice for colours. I love how the buttons contrast nicely with a white base colour.
9" chocolate mudcake with chocolate ganache, starting at $160
Mississippi mud cake, 12" & 10", the top 8" tier was a false tier. Covered in piped cornelli lace. Luxurious red satin ribbon with rhinestone buckle give this cake a sophisticated feel.
Throw in for a bit of fun, a passed out bride and groom! An unusual request from Hayley, but I was more than happy to indulge in a little modeling work.
It is birthday season in my family. Today is my eldest daughter's 11th birthday. It is tradition for children to bring in cupcakes for the class to share on their birthday's, but this year I went a little further..... ok WAY further. I made mini hand bags (and "man bags") for Lillian's entire class. All 30 of them! Around about 2am this morning I was second guessing myself as I decorated my 30th bag.
The hand bags were a big hit with Lillian's class and teacher, there were even some left overs for the principle and admin ladies.
Tonight was the birthday party, and of course, cake, for the family. Here is a photo of my first whimsy cake. I am very keen for my next opportunity to make this fun style, I learnt so much in the process.
Before I forget ( again ), last month was my youngest son's 6th birthday. He requested a "Bob" cake. (for those of you who are not familiar, Bob is from the movie Monsters Vs Aliens). To begin with I was puzzled as to how to do this successfully. But in the end I (and Xander) was very happy with the end result:
Stay tuned for my eldest son's 9th birthday in 9 days
A style that has been receiving many requests. Sugar rose petals add a simple but romantic touch to these mini cakes. Delicate butter cake with ivory icing and gold ribbon.
Great for a smaller wedding, 15 mini cakes and 6" cutting cake, shown here on a large stand for display purposes only. These cakes are making the journey to Perth, so I was unable to take a photo of the completed display. Hopefully Tanya is able to email me a photo upon her return.
Here is just a selection of cakes I have completed, with a photo that was given to me by the bride and a photo of the cake the bride received. Obviously tiers have been added, removed, and some flowers changed by type or colour at the request of my clients.
I have no problem working from a picture of a cake you absolutely love, I am also able to create a new design just for you.
What a fabulous day! I met so many lovely brides, bridesmaids, mothers and friends today. I provided over 200 cake tastings, and still have lots left over (I have one VERY happy husband!)
I have had lots of interest from brides, for wedding dates from August 09 all the way thru to Dec '10. So I strongly recommend to all brides wishing to book me in to create their wedding cake, get in early! I only accept 1 booking per date, as I have a high personal standard and will not compromise the quality of my clients cake to squeeze in another order.
I unveiled 2 very exciting cake designs today, a MASSIVE 4 tier, double thick butterfly cake, and a 2 tier cake of my own design "Love Nest".
Thank you again to everyone who came and spoke to me, I hope to speak to you again very soon.
Hi all! Just wanted to remind you that I will be at the bridal fair THIS Sunday, 24th May. I will have some exciting, stand out cakes on display. I will also have tastings available of my most requested flavors, but be quick! Once they are gone, that's it!
You can find me located at the Affordable Elegance exhibit, and I will be offering a "expo only" special. Be sure to also grab one of our "Affordable Elegance" show bags! We have some special offers inside, along with some handy information, selected businesses we recommend (because we use them ourselves!), and you may also find a special little treat for yourself too!
Thank you for visiting my site, and I hope to see you on Sunday!
On Saturday I had the pleasure of attending Christine's baby shower. We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon in the sun, sipping bubbly and playing games such as "Name my celebrity parents" (Which I am pleased to announce, I won!). I was delighted to finally meet Christine's sister Debbie, for whom I created a wedding cake (2nd May). I was humbled by everyone's compliments, as majority of guests at the shower also attended Debbie's wedding. One guest had also attended Tess' wedding way back in June 08 (boxed mini cakes).
Christine's baby shower cake was a 10" mississippi mud "pillow" cake. Sprayed with soft pink luster dust for a lovely sheen, with a quilted finish. Fondant rope, tassels and buttons completed the look. Buttons were brushed with gold dust.
Natalie contacted me 3 weeks ago to create a cake for her dad's 50th birthday. Together we came up with a design that worked to her budget, which included different elements of several cakes. 5", 7" & 9" cakes, consisting of Mississippi mud cake, caramel mud cake and white chocolate mud cake. Iced in a DELICIOUS butter cream frosting. Topped with a little golfer, hand made by myself, putting his ball into the "50th" hole.
Thank you Natalie for ordering this very fun design, I had a great time putting it all together. I truly hope your dad had a wonderful birthday.
Appointments are strongly recommended to avoid any inconvenience for you.
You are welcome to call into Affordable Elegance to view my display cakes, and if I am not with a client at the time, I am always more than happy to discuss your ideas and requirements.
